Lanolin Alcohol [CAS# 8027-33-6], often referred to as Wool Alcohol, Wool Grease, or Anhydrous Lanolin, is procured from the fleece of sheep and consists largely of sterol esters. Lanolin Alcohol functions as a water-oil emulsifier thus finding its most common uses in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations such as creams, lotions, and hair styling sprays. Though widely used in these products, Lanolin Alcohol is known to be the main sensitizer in Lanolin. Industrial uses are also included in the functions of Lanolin Alcohol as it can be used in certain applications including textile finishers, paper, and leather products.
