Parchem – fine & specialty chemicals continues to lead the way as a reliable partner to the chemical industry.  Parchem’s extensive product lines strategy was put in place to ensure it supports the transitions many companies are undergoing to drive efficiencies and manage their supply chain management models. The broad spectrum of lines include: paints & coatings, food & beverages, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and performance materials. One of Parchem’s more expansive products is calcium carbonate, a mineral extracted from natural rock formations and purified for use in a variety of applications.

Calcium carbonate [CAS# 471-34-1] is one of the most widely used minerals in the world with a diverse array of industrial and commercial applications, including the manufacture of plastics, paints, adhesives, drilling fluids, concrete, and paper. It is commonly found as a mineral in rocks, but when isolated, it exists as a white, odorless powder with a chalky feel and taste.

There are three kinds of rock containing calcium carbonate that are excavated. Limestone and chalk, which are both forms of calcium carbonate, and dolomite, which is a mixture of calcium and magnesium carbonates. The primary uses of limestone and chalk by a large margin are in the construction industry and cement making. In these applications, they are used to treat and strengthen concrete as well as certain other building materials including clays and gypsum, commonly known as drywall. Dolomite is also used for a number of industrial purposes; for example, dolomite commonly used to soften water and to aid in the removal of colloidal particles from sewage.

Parchem – fine & specialty chemicals understands its customers’ business models and has the infrastructure to support our partners’ business in the short and long-term.  We take pride in providing the highest quality raw materials accurately, timely and on budget.
