Dihydroxyacetone [CAS# 96-26-4] is a simple carbohydrate involved in the processes of glycolysis and photosynthesis in plant sources including sugar beets and sugar cane. Commercially, it can be produced by microbial fermentation.

Dihydroxyacetone finds its most common application in sunless tanners as it exhibits the ability to darken skin. The reaction of Dihydroxyacetone with amino acids, peptides, and amines on the surface of the skin triggers a Maillard reaction causing the skin to brown. It is also used in dietary supplements in conjunction with pyruvate for weight loss. When Dihydroxyacetone and pyruvate act together, they have been known to produce notable metabolic effects.

With a well-developed reach into the specialty chemicals market, Parchem is a reliable supplier for any product you may need. We have strong relationships with suppliers and distributors allowing us to supply the chemicals you need in various configurations of formulations, packaging, and shipping.
