Nonylphenol Ethoxylates [CAS# 9016-45-9] are nonionic surfactants created by reacting nonpolyphenol with ethyleneoxide. The molecules of Nonylphenol Ethoxylates are hydrophilic on one end and hydrophobic on the other end. Concordant with this description, one end attracts water and the other attracts less soluble substances to improve solubility. Thus, surface tension of liquids can be reduced.

Uses for Nonylphenol Ethoxylates include surfactants, wetting agents, emulsifiers, and dispersants. A de-inking agent in recycled paper, mold release agent in the manufacture of concrete, plaster, and cement are common uses for NPEs as well.
