Parchem – fine and specialty chemicals is a leading supplier of adipic acid dihydrazide for the US coatings and cosmetics industries. Adipic acid dihydrazide (ADH) is a symmetrical molecule with dual hydrazide functionality at either end. Parchem supplies adipic acid dihydrazide in a powder form that is prepared from the reaction of adipic acid and hydrazine. Adipic acid dihydrazide can be identified by its CAS number 1071-93-8; other names include for adipic acid dihydrazide include Hexandihydrazide, Adipic dihydrazide, Adipohydrazide, and Adipyl hydrazide.
Adipic acid dihydrazide reacts very rapidly with other chemical reagents that contain ketone group functionality as well as amino compounds. Adipic acid dihydrazide is primarily used as a cross-linking agent for water based emulsions, as a hardener for epoxy resins, and as a free-radical scavenger for the stabilization of formaldehyde. In particular, adipic acid dihydrazide is used in powder coating applications for high-temperature epoxy resins as a cross-linker in conjunction with the chemical intermediate diacetone acrylamide. Emulsions that contain both adipic acid dihydrazide and diacetone acrylamide provide excellent water resistance.
Another use of adipic acid dihydrazide is that it prevents formaldehyde from volatilizing in the air by preventing the formaldehyde from reacting with free radicals in the air. One less common usage of adipic acid dihydrazide is its use in the fiber processing and reforming of plastics.
