Industrially, it is used as a solvent in order to clean and treat equipment, or as a general solvent for many inks, paints, lacquers, and epoxy resin coatings. Other applications for benzyl chloride include the manufacturing of herbicides, aroma esters, plasticizers, resins, wetting agents, germicides, rubber accelerators and gasoline gum inhibitors to processes involving multi-step organic synthesis.
