Isododecane [ CAS # 31807-55-3 ] is a branched hydrocarbon which, is often used in cosmetic and hair care products. Isododecane, like other hydrocarbons, is frequently used in cosmetics because of its effect on moisture retention in the skin. Thanks to its low viscosity and density, it also modifies the spreadability of products such as lotions or oils. Isododecane is also sometimes used in hair products as well thanks to its’ compatibility with silicones, which helps impart shine and slip. Furthermore, the ease with which it evaporates contributes to its’ use as a fragrance and perfume component.
