Parchem is a proud supplier of phthalic anhydride (CAS 85-44-9). Phthalic anhydride, or Isobenzofuran-1,3-dione, is an organic compound with the formula C6H4(CO)2O. It is a colorless to white solid that has a mild distinctive odor. When Combined with water it becomes corrosive.

Phthalic anhydride is most commonly used industrially to produce certain dyes. The well-known anthroquinone dye, quinizarin, is prepared by reacting para-chlorophenol and phthalic anhydride followed by hydrolysis of the chloride. Other than its industrial uses phthalic anhydride is also used in pharmaceuticals. It is treated with cellulose acetate to create cellulose acetate phthalate or CAP which is used as a coating for pills.
