1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone is often used in the paints & coatings industry where it brings vibrant coloring to lacquers, sealants, and specialty paint. Being an inexpensive dye, it is used to color  asoline and other heating oils. It can also be used to form lake pigments when combined with calcium, barium, and lead.
