We are excited to offer Lignin in various configurations, as it has environmentally friendly applications along with being a renewable resource!
Lignin [ CAS# 9005-53-2 ] is an organic substance – an amorphous polymer – found in the structural components of tissues in plants and algae as well as in cell walls in wood and bark. Lignin is the most abundant renewable carbon resource we have on Earth, following cellulose. Currently, most of the lignin that is produced is made as a byproduct of the paper industry as it is separated from trees through a chemical pulping process.
Most Lignin products are found as Lignosulfonates of various configurations. Lignosulfonates, along with Lignin, have a wide range of substitution potential to any products that are normally sourced from petrochemical substances, such as biofuel production from engineered lignin-rich plants. Lignosulfonates can be used in the production of bioplastics, as dispersants, binders, emulsifiers, chelating agents, and food additives.
More specifically, Lignosulfonates can reduce the amount of water needed in production of various substances. Commonly, they are used in concrete and cement making. In these applications, the addition of Lignosulfonates can aid in making stronger concrete. Additionally, Lignosulfonates are applied to agricultural practices because they can help stimulate plant growth and increase absorption of nutrients.
