Potassium permanganate, commonly known as Condy''s crystals, is an inorganic chemical compound with the formula KMnO4 [CAS number 7722-64-7]. It is an oxidizing agent that can be used for many applications, from industrial water purification and textile bleaching to chemical oxidation and corrosion protection. Due to its oxidizing properties, potassium permanganate is often used in textile dyeing processes to improve color fastness and reduce fading when exposed to light or air pollution. In the paper industry, it is commonly used in bleaching processes to whiten paper pulp prior to production.
