Beta-Naphthol molecular structureBeta-naphthol [CAS#: 135-19-3] is a naphthalene derivative that is often used as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of various pigments and dyes.  Beta-naphthol is also referred to as ß-naphthol or 2-naphthol, which differs from its isomer alpha-naphthol [CAS#: 90-15-3] by the position of the hydroxyl group on its structure.  Both alpha- and beta-naphthol are soluble in simple solvents such as alcohols, ethers, and chloroform.  Parchem supplies beta-naphthol in its crystalline state for the production of dyes and in organic synthesis applications.  Alpha- and beta-naphthol is also used as a precursor in the production of certain pharmaceutical products.
